This is a different take on interval classes with the added benefit of developing your jump rope skills and in turn your biomotor abilities. Skipping has shown to be one of the most effective workouts for burning fat and toning as well as a tool for improving agility, coordination, speed and endurance.

The great thing is it’s available to adults of all ages, skill and fitness levels. We’ve had people from their late teens to 60’s attend regularly. Whether you’ve lapsed in the gym, never exercised or even touched a jump rope in your life, this is the ideal workout for you. People surprise themselves at what they can achieve within a few sessions.

Benefits and aims of the class:

  • Improve fitness and cardiovascular health
  • Learn a new skill in jump rope and pick up some fancy tricks along the way
  • Improve movement capacity and efficiency with increased range of motion
  • Increase bone density and help prevent conditions such as osteoporosis
  • Improve biomotor abilities (strength, endurance, speed, flexibility, balance and coordination
  • Improved muscle tone and weight loss
  • Most importantly – have fun and do something different

Class Structure

The class is structured to make the most of learning new skills as well as developing your biomotor abilities so you get a workout that covers all bases.

What we cover:

  • Skill development – the start of the session will deal with some skill development and technique – so this could be boxer step, crossovers or backward jumping with different levels depending on where you’re at
  • Power – we then cover power jumping cover double unders and their progressions and regressions
  • Coordination – this covers moves like side swings and transitions and those that require and develop coordination skills.
  • Speed and agility – this interval aims to develop you speed over a short period, developing your anaerobic system
  • HIIT interval – this lasts approximately 3 minutes combining low intensity with high intensity sprinting
  • Endurance – we go for a couple of round or one long round where your aerobic endurance is developed and your creativity is challenged. Mix it up and develop your intuitiveness with the rope.

Suitability

These classes are suitable for beginners or experienced jumpers alike. We have had people who have never picked a rope up before to professional athletes who are well acquainted with a jump rope.

All fitness levels welcome. There are always alternatives demonstrated for those or don’t feel comfortable or familiar with a certain exercise or movement. Do what you can at your own pace and have fun with it.

Concrete should be avoided as a jumping surface where possible. Finely manicured grass, wooden sprung floor or low pile carpet are appropriate surfaces. If you’re on a hard surface, consider using a rubber mat of approximately 5-8mm thickness. Our mats are currently out of stock. As soon as we have them back in, we will have them back up for sale.
